UC Santa Barbara researchers in chemist Kevin Plaxco’s lab are deeply interested in the mechanics of biomolecular receptors, which have great potential biotechnology applications, including the design of biosensors. In a paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the researchers develop a modular design approach for tuning two important and typically opposing aspects of biomolecular receptor binding: affinity and cooperativity.

Congratulations to our CBE Director, Beth Pruitt, PhD., who will be recognized as one of the 2020 Class of Fellows during the BMES Virtual Meeting held on October 14-17, 2020.

The Fellow status is awarded to BMES members who demonstrate exceptional achievements and experience in the field of biomedical engineering and hold a record of membership and participation in the Society.

Beth Pruitt, Ph.D. helped create the first ever UC Wide Reception at the BMES Annual Event in 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia and 2nd UC Wide Reception in 2019 hosted in Philadelphia, PA.
