Michelle Rozo will share about her current position and what motivated the career move to science policy. She’ll discuss benefits of government service, what the job looks like day-to-day, challenges faced while transitioning away from the bench, and advice for how trainees can prepare for similar jobs.
Bio
Dr. Michelle Rozo is a Senior Science and Technology Advisor for Biotechnology at the Department of Defense (DoD) and is the principal advisor to the Assistant Director of Defense Research & Engineering for Biotechnology. In this role, Michelle is the strategic initiatives lead for biotechnology modernization and serves as a technical and policy lead for the DoD. Previously, Michelle was an AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow with the U.S. Department of State’s Cooperative Threat Reduction office, and the office of U.S. Senator Bob Casey where she advised on global health security issues. She has also served as a staff scientist and postdoctoral fellow with the Naval Medical Research Center in Fort Detrick, Maryland where she led laboratory operations for international clinical studies. Michelle earned a Ph.D. in Biology from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in Biology and Global Health from Northwestern University.
