Grand Opening Ceremony for new Bioengineering building at UCSB

The College of Engineering and campus administration celebrated the opening of the new Bioengineering building at UCSB this fall quarter. This new research building will house up to 12 bioengineering-related faculty and their research groups and two academic units: The Center for Bioengineering and the Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies. The program for the grand opening ceremony included comments by Dean Rod Alferness, Chancellor Henry Yang, EVC David Marshall, CBE Director Kevin Plaxco, ICB co-Director, Brad Chmelka, and Dean Frank Doyle of the John A. Paulson School of Engineering & Applied Sciences at Harvard University. Industry representitives and UCSB alumni also provided brief comments at the ceremony, including Bobby Brar, Teledyne Scientific Company President, Miguel de Los Rios, RIFT Biotherapeutics founder and CEO, Ron Chiarello, Alveo Technologies founder and CEO, and Louis Perez, Apeel Sciences co-founder and VP of Technology. A catered reception and lab tours followed the formal ribbon cutting ceremony.
